The Cook Government has committed $5.3 million to bolster worker accommodation in regional Western Australia. The funding will enhance housing infrastructure in areas like the South West and Great Southern, where the need for key workers is critical.

Premier Roger Cook stressed that this investment aims to improve the supply of quality accommodation, which has been a barrier to attracting and retaining workers in these regions. The plan includes upgrades to existing facilities and new housing units, benefitting essential workers and supporting the local economy.

The initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to address regional housing challenges and ensure the long-term sustainability of local businesses. By improving accommodation, the government hopes to attract more workers, easing labour shortages and encouraging regional growth.

“We understand how important it is for key workers to have access to adequate accommodation,” Cook said. “This investment will go a long way in ensuring our regional communities can thrive.”

Housing Minister John Carey added that this project is a major step toward addressing housing pressures across the state. “We’re committed to ensuring that regional WA has the infrastructure it needs to support its workforce,” Carey noted.

This $5.3 million investment aligns with the government’s broader efforts to tackle housing shortages and strengthen infrastructure in regional WA, reflecting its commitment to improving living conditions for workers and fostering economic growth. The upgrades are set to commence soon, with regional areas prioritised to address immediate worker housing needs.
