Australian smallgoods producer, D’Orsogna Limited, celebrated 75 years as an innovative family-owned business supplying quality food nationally from its Palmyra, WA headquarters and Merrifield, Victoria production plant.

D’Orsogna Chairman Tony Iannello says the longevity was a credit to the company’s founders D’Orsogna brothers Tommaso and Giovanni and the second-generation family members who have transitioned the company from a local food manufacturer to a significant national manufacturer and well-respected brand.

“The ongoing support of the D’Orsogna family, together with the loyal, committed staff, suppliers, customers and consumers have been behind this proud history. It’s also pleasing to now see the third generation of the D’Orsogna family becoming involved in the business,” Iannello said.

It was March 7, 1949, when D’Orsogna commenced as a butcher shop in Stone Street, West Perth, trading as T. D’Orsogna Family Butcher. D’Orsogna smallgoods moved from West Perth to Palmyra in 1973.

Headquartered in Perth, WA, the 75-year-old family-owned business is nationally recognised as a market leader in the production and distribution of a range of cured and cooked whole and sliced hams, gourmet continental goods, bacon and cooked sausages.

Today, D’Orsogna employs approximately 800 people, comprising 550 in WA and 250 in Victoria.

The landmark WA premises at Palmyra, near the port of Fremantle, has been D’Orsogna’s home since 1973 and retains its head office status, staff and production.

Nationally it is complemented by D’Orsogna’s 2019 $65 million state-of-the-art 11,000sqm food manufacturing facility in Victoria.

Mr Iannello acknowledged the vision and hard work of the company’s family, board members and staff, all of whom shared a steadfast commitment to a food business focussed on producing and supplying quality products, many of which still honoured and reflected the Italian heritage of D’Orsogna’s founding fathers.

“While there have been challenges along the way, they’ve always been met with appropriate due diligence, reinforced by ongoing ethical family business values, and continued emphasis on product quality.

“D’Orsogna’s reputation nationally in business circles and beyond is second to none and the board, executive and staff have always prioritised integrity,” he said.

D’Orsogna continues to invest in new and upgraded infrastructure to lift volume and quality at its Palmyra, WA and Merrifield, Victoria plants.

Product development is also core to D’Orsogna’s business and its dedicated product development team constantly reviews product offerings to develop new lines to fit market niches and meet emerging consumer eating and buying patterns.

Mr Iannello said the board, family members, executive team and all employees wished to acknowledge and thank suppliers, customers and consumers for their ongoing support.
