Inghams Group expands with new SA warehouse

Inghams Group has opened the second of its three new distribution centres in Edinburgh, further enabling significant cost savings in terms of transport and freight efficiency.

The 15,380 sqm fridge and freezer facility is the second of three warehouses TMX Global is delivering for Inghams.

Achieving Practical Completion on 18 April and sitting adjacent to the company’s existing processing plant, the fridge and freezer facility will accommodate 100 staff.

“Sourcing a site next to Inghams’ processing plant will enable significant cost savings, in terms of transport and freight efficiency, as well as a significant reduction in environmental impact,” TMX Director Sam Dellios said.

Inghams National Distribution Manager Chris Ong said it was a team effort.

“Working closely with our property & supply chain partner TMX Global, we have designed a facility under 5 Star Green Star guidelines that will drive operational efficiencies and improve our ability to service customers across Australia and internationally,” he said.

“To deliver a project of this size in Adelaide – through global supply chain challenges – is a testament to the collaboration of Inghams, TMX, Texco, and Goodman.”

Developed by Goodman and built by Texco, TMX Global managed the multidisciplinary project from start to finish, providing DC design, technical scoping, property procurement, and construction delivery management.

TMX Global remains on board, supporting Inghams with their operational transition into the new facility to ensure they are reaping the full benefits of the strategic design results in real operations.

The facility demonstrates Inghams’ commitment to carbon reductions, and is partly solar-powered, with 500kw of solar installed on its roof. In comparison to older plants, highly efficient refrigeration systems will reduce electrical consumption by 50%.

The first new facility opened at Truganina, in Melbourne’s west, last year. The third facility will open later this year in Hazelmere, Western Australia. Inghams is the leading poultry provider in Australia and New Zealand.
