German supermarket giant Kaufland has officially completed the largest distribution centre in Australia.
Located in Mickleham in Melbourne’s north, the 100,000m² facility was completed by Vaughan Constructions in March, who won the contract to build Kaufland’s DC in 2019.
The distribution centre includes 107,000m² of concrete hardstand, 168 recessed loading docks, 73,200m² of warehousing, office and entry building of around 4,000m², ancillary buildings of 3,700m², freezer of 10,500m² and social building of 1,000m², on a 28 hectare site.
Vaughan Director Eric Law said the team had truly enjoyed working side by side with the Kaufland team to deliver Vaughan’s biggest ever project.
”Together we have achieved an amazing feat in the design and construction of a world-class facility – currently the largest in Australia – which encompasses the best of German specifications and Australian design,” said Law.

Director Construction & Planning at Kaufland Australia, Patrick Bezner, echoed Law‘s comments.
”It goes without saying that we could not have achieved this without the support and hard work of the Kaufland and Vaughan Constructions teams, who have persevered and demonstrated immense commitment despite the challenges posed by COVID-19,” said Bezner.
Vaughan Constructions said in a statement that the building was sold at an undisclosed price to an Australian institutional investor.
It was fully leased to a local transport and distribution company.
