Let’s get to know our Best Practice Demand Planning Summit Speaker, Bruce Allen. He is the Supply & Demand Planning Manager of National Tiles. He will also give an overview of his session; Setting your priorities straight: Best practice inventory management.
What inspires you to be part of the supply chain sector?
I am excited by the way technology is having a positive impact on the Supply Chain sector. Warehouse automation, RFID, Autonomous Transportation, Blockchain, Machine Learning/AI etc. are all great examples of technologies that are improving supply chains now and will even more so into the future. It’s exciting to see where this could end up over the coming years.
What is the key theme you want people to talk away from your talk?
Inventory management, what does good look like for your organisation?
Can you please give us a brief preview of your talk/panel discussion?
For many businesses inventory will have the greatest impact on capital so it’s important to understand how this can impact business profitability. Getting buy-in from key stakeholders is required in being able to set appropriate KPIs for inventory, enabling the organisation to realise the profitability targets. This becomes more challenging as we move in multi-channel environments as we need to balance sometimes competing interests for the greater team goal. Where does the customer fit into the process? What tools can I use to manage my inventory?
What’s the best lesson you’ve learned in your career so far?
Seek to understand.
What advice can you give to those who are looking at a career in Supply Chain?
Be prepared for change, there is a lot happening in this space which is personally quite appealing but this mightn’t be for everyone.
