National Safe Work Month: Prioritising workplace safety across Australia

October marks National Safe Work Month, a crucial initiative aimed at raising awareness about workplace safety across Australia. This month-long campaign encourages businesses, workers, and the community to prioritise safety and well-being in the workplace.

Safe Work Australia emphasises that creating a safe work environment is a collective responsibility. “Every worker has the right to return home safely at the end of the day,” said Safe Work Australia CEO Michelle Baxter.

The campaign highlights the importance of implementing effective safety practices and fostering a culture where safety is a shared commitment.

Throughout October, various activities and resources will be available to support organisations in promoting safety. Businesses are encouraged to engage their employees in discussions about safety protocols, hazard identification, and risk management.

“It’s essential to have open conversations about safety and ensure that everyone is aware of their roles in maintaining a safe workplace,” Baxter added.

This year’s theme, “Think Safe. Work Safe. Be Safe,” reinforces the importance of proactive measures in preventing workplace incidents. Employers are urged to review their safety policies and procedures, ensuring they are up-to-date and effective.

“Investing in safety is not just about compliance; it’s about protecting lives and enhancing productivity,” Baxter said.

The campaign also highlights the significance of mental health in the workplace, recognising that a safe environment goes beyond physical safety. Workers are encouraged to seek support and speak up about any concerns regarding their well-being.
