Shoalhaven’s commitment to sustainability and innovation has taken a major step forward with the launch of a new rubber crumb plant, designed to enhance the region’s circular economy.
The facility, dedicated to recycling end-of-life tyres, is expected to play a crucial role in reducing waste and repurposing materials for use in various industries.
Located in South Nowra, the plant transforms used tyres into rubber crumbs, which are then utilised in a variety of products, from road surfaces to playgrounds and sporting fields.
By diverting waste tyres from landfills, the facility supports environmental sustainability while creating new economic opportunities in the region.
Shoalhaven City Council Mayor Amanda Findley highlighted the importance of the plant for both the environment and the local economy, stating, “This new facility is a fantastic example of how Shoalhaven is embracing sustainable solutions that benefit both our community and the environment.
It’s great to see such a practical solution for tyre waste, turning it into something useful.”
The rubber crumb plant is a key component of Shoalhaven’s broader waste management strategy, which focuses on resource recovery, waste reduction, and the creation of new jobs in sustainable industries.
The facility will significantly contribute to lowering the environmental impact of tyre disposal while generating materials that can be reintroduced into the local economy.
As part of the region’s circular economy efforts, the plant will help drive further innovation in recycling and resource management, making Shoalhaven a leader in sustainable development and waste reduction practices.
