The Victorian Government has unveiled the permanent board tasked with leading the revamped State Electricity Commission.

This initiative is set to drive the construction of 4.5 gigawatts of new renewable electricity generation and storage, ultimately aiding in the reduction of household power bills.

Minister for the State Electricity Commission Lily D’Ambrosio announced the appointment of Simon Corbell as the chair of the SEC Board, alongside four experienced directors in finance, asset management, energy, and investment.

Simon Corbell’s appointment brings a wealth of experience in renewable energy investment, policy, and regulation to the board.

His extensive background in both public and private sectors, notably his recent role at the Clean Energy Investor Group, positions him well to steer the SEC towards its objectives in the renewable energy landscape.

“I look forward to guiding the new SEC and working with the government, community and private investors to accelerate the energy transition and help Victoria achieve its nation-leading climate and energy targets,” he noted.

Joining Corbell on the board are notable individuals such as Joycelyn Morton, recognised for her tenure on the boards of ASX-listed companies and government-owned corporations, including Snowy Hydro.

Anna Skarbek, CEO of Climateworks Centre and a founding director of the Clean Energy Finance Corporation brings her vast expertise in the private and public sectors to the table.

Additionally, Jo Benvenuti, with her deep understanding of energy and water policy, along with Damien Barnes, whose extensive experience spans law, commercial management, and engineering, further bolster the board’s capabilities.

“Simon Corbell and the new board directors have exceptional credentials in their fields and will lead the revived SEC as it accelerates our energy transition and drives down energy bills for Victorians,” stated Minister D’Ambrosio.

The SEC board’s mandate extends to supporting Victoria in achieving its ambitious renewable energy target of 95 per cent by 2035, solidifying the state’s position as a leader in renewable energy adoption.

Efforts are already underway to fill two additional board positions, underscoring the government’s commitment to ensuring robust leadership in this critical sector.
