Who we are

The Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) is part of the Commonwealth Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment. As primary agency for Australia’s Antarctic Program (AAP), the AAD is responsible for achieving the Australian Government’s Antarctic goals. These goals are to:

  • maintain the Antarctic Treaty System and enhance Australia’s influence within it
  • protect the Antarctic environment
  • understand the role of Antarctica in the global climate system
  • undertake scientific work of practical, economic and national significance.

The AAD also has responsibility for administering the Australian Antarctic Territory and the Territory of Heard and McDonald Islands.

The Assets and Infrastructure Branch provides and maintains the equipment and infrastructure to support the Australian Antarctic Program. This ranges from maintenance of existing assets through to developing or procuring new assets and capability.

The Procurement Support Office Section is responsible for the oversight and delivery of the procurement function within the AAD, which includes the development and/or implementation of procurement guidelines and procedures, and the provision of quality and timely advice regarding procurement of a wide range of goods and services conducted in support of Australia’s Antarctic Program. The section administers the procurement reporting system for the AAD, supports end-users who use the system, and works cohesively with the department’s central procurement unit that maintains the overall procurement policy framework.

The Job
Working under limited direction from an EL1 Procurement Lead, the key duties include, but are not limited to:

  • providing strategic advice, practical guidance and solutions on procurement matters to line-areas, including undertaking complex
  • probity and procurement compliance reviews of approaches to market in line with the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013 (PGPA) Act and Commonwealth Procurement Rules
  • co-ordinating more complex procurement activities, including developing tender documentation, managing tender processes and evaluation reporting
  • negotiating with multiple internal and external stakeholders, including suppliers, to resolve conflicts or difficult issues, and to ensure compliance and completion of procurement activities within timeframes.

What we are looking for
Knowledge and experience

Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of relevant legislation (PGPA Act) and the Commonwealth Procurement Framework.
