SPAR Australia has announced a transformational upgrade to its Brisbane distribution centre, partnering with intralogistics provider Jungheinrich to achieve the enhancement.

According to SPRAR, the upgrade is set to improve business efficiencies and create significant cost savings while reducing the retailer’s environmental footprint.

The 18,000 pallet racking project with Jungheinrich will be housed in a 13,400 sqm warehouse specific, purpose-built facility, which will bring all parts of the business under one roof.

For the past twenty years, SPAR Australia’s Head Office and Dry Goods department have been operating from a multipurpose facility, subsequently working with third-party logistics (3PL) partners to cover Chilled & Freezer requirements.

The new facility will help the SPAR country operator ensure all parts of the business work off the one system, gaining ultimate control over inventory.

The warehouse will also feature docks on either side, which will provide unhindered pathways for ‘Goods inward’ and ‘Outbound movements’. In addition, warehouse targets around pick rates, replenishment, and receiving are set to be significantly improved.

Compared to the current multi-site arrangement, the upgrade will help SPAR achieve improved freight rates with a single pickup point

In terms of reducing environmental footprint, SPAR Australia will be gaining 100kw of solar panel power, LED lighting systems, and a rainwater collection depot. Environmentally friendly gasses are used in the chiller freezer facility.
