Following the NSW state government’s call to transition Sydney’s 8000 bus fleet into electric vehiclesTrueGreen and Nexport responded with a $700 million plan to grow the state’s EV manufacturing industrywhich will be rolled out through its newly acquired manufacturing hub in Southern Highlands.

Active investment group TrueGreen and its subsidiary electric bus company Nexport purchased a 51 hectare site at an enterprise state in Moss Vale as part of an industry-led initiative to shift Sydney’s ageing bus fleet to all-electric alternatives.

Apart from buses, the 7-star-rated, zero emissions manufacturing hub will also be producing electric cars, trucks, logistics vans, and other clean technology products.

TrueGreen and Nexport CEO Luke Todd said they are focussed on driving change by backing Australia’s most innovative CleanTech businesses across industry verticals that will help lead Australia’s future prosperity and generate positive environmental and social benefits.

“TrueGreen and Nexport are planning to bring automotive manufacturing back to Australia with the next generation of cost effective electric vehicles,” said Todd.

He said that it’s vital to Australia’s long-term future and prosperity that we look foadvance cleantech manufacturing opportunities that we can export to other countries.

In a promotional video, Todd said that the facility will be bringing production back to Australia.

“We have a five-year roadmap to bring full production back to Australia,” said Todd.

“We will be starting with importing vehicles and doing an engineering upgrade for the Australian market and then over five years we will be producing cars in full in Australia.”

The proposed $700 million manufacturing facility is also set to create around 2,000 skilled jobs for the region over the next five years.

Nexport, which says it is the largest supplier of electric buses in Australia, is supported by cleantech investment company TrueGreen Impact Group (TrueGreen). Under the TrueGreen umbrella also include companies Gemilang, eTaxiCo, and Electric Trucks Australia.

In an interview with The Driven, the company announced that 115 buses had already been ordered. Until the facility is in operation, the buses will be built offshore, but as the next orders come in, will eventually start being manufactured locally.
