Alta, Aurizon, and ARENA unveil first battery electric tender

Alta Battery Technology declared a partnership with Aurizon, an Australian rail freight supplier, and the Australian Renewable Energy Agency to foster the world’s debut battery electric tender.

This project, reinforced by $9.4 million in funding from ARENA, expects to charge Aurizon’s fleet, stretching out haulage distances by up to 400km and essentially decreasing emissions.

The BET project addresses a change in perspective in sustainable energy solutions for large machinery.

Alta will use its advanced DC-to-DC converter technology to interface diesel-powered resources for electric power sources, empowering a mixture activity that fundamentally diminishes carbon emissions.

Notably, the tender’s battery will catch regenerative energy during ordinary operation, further upgrading proficiency and sustainability.

Rail transport emissions from Australia’s heavy haul freight industry as of now offer more than 4,000,000 tons of CO2e every year, addressing 0.8 percent of the country’s absolute greenhouse gas emissions.

With the bulk of these emissions starting from the resource industry, which depends heavily on rail freight for transportation, Alta said the BET project holds a gigantic commitment to alleviating environmental effects.

Roy Zou, managing director of Alta Battery Technology, highlighted the urgency of progressing away from diesel-fueled locomotives to battle climate change.

The BET project has gotten funding from ARENA as a component of its Renewables program, mirroring the organisation’s obligation to drive technological solutions for emissions decrease in key industries.
