Australia Post has introduced a new fleet of 175 advanced electric motorbikes, marking a significant step in the company’s ongoing commitment to safety, sustainability, and innovation.
Manufactured by UBCO Electric Utility Bikes, these motorbikes are the first in Australia Post’s fleet and will be deployed nationwide, setting a new standard for eco-friendly delivery solutions. Capable of reaching speeds of up to 80 km/h, these motorbikes will enable Australia Post to electrify routes that were previously difficult for three-wheel electric delivery vehicles to navigate.
With the country’s electric delivery fleet already exceeding 5,100 vehicles, adding these electric motorbikes will further aid Australia Post in reducing emissions, lowering operational costs, and enhancing delivery performance while maintaining the highest safety standards for its team members.
Australia Post CEO and Managing Director, Paul Graham, emphasised the importance of this new fleet at the launch. “This is a pivotal moment for Australia Post and demonstrates our commitment to sustainability and forward-thinking technology. This new fleet allows us to electrify a broader spectrum of routes, reducing our reliance on fossil fuels and further advancing our sustainability goals. We are proud to integrate cutting-edge solutions that benefit our team members, our customers and the environment..”
Oliver Hutaff, UBCO Chief Executive, shared his excitement about the partnership, stating, ““Our latest model, the UBCO Duty, is tailored for companies seeking efficient, low-emission delivery options. By partnering with Australia Post, we’ve developed a vehicle that meets the rigorous demands of high-use delivery, while reducing environmental impact and operating costs. We’re excited to work with Australia Post as they roll out this new fleet..”
Key features of the new electric motorbike fleet include:
Emission Reduction: The UBCO motorbikes produce zero tailpipe emissions, reducing air pollution along delivery routes.
Enhanced Efficiency: Equipped with cutting-edge electric vehicle technology, these motorbikes offer superior energy efficiency, converting a high percentage of battery energy to the wheels.
Quieter Operation: The electric motorbikes operate quietly, minimising noise pollution in urban areas.
Advanced Safety: The fleet includes safety features such as LED lighting systems, reflective red side panels for better visibility, a low centre of gravity for improved stability, and an electric drive system for enhanced traction and control.
Australia Post will host a track day later this week to assess the latest electric vehicle technologies. Van and truck drivers will evaluate various vehicles equipped with cutting-edge technology to ensure any new fleet additions meet the practical needs of the Australia Post delivery team.
Customers can expect to see these new electric motorbikes in operation starting next month. In addition to the new motorbikes, Australia Post also operates eDVs, electric pushbikes, and electric trucks.
