Contract granted for WA oil field decommissioning work

Woodside Energy has granted McDermott an agreement for seaward decommissioning work off Western Australia. 

As part of the decommissioning of the Stybarrow field, McDermott, a Texas-based engineering firm, will completely remove the Stybarrow disconnectable turret mooring (DTM) buoy. 

Under the designing, obtainment and expulsion contract, McDermott will give the project the executives and designing administrations for the recuperation, transportation and offloading of the DTM float to a reasonable inland yard office for destruction and removal. 

Mahesh Swaminathan, senior VP, of subsea and floating offices at McDermott, said the honour exhibited McDermott’s history in endeavour assorted deepwater projects. 

“With our seamless integration of engineering, fabrication, and offshore mobilisation expertise, we believe we are well-equipped to execute this project efficiently and responsibly, ensuring the safe recovery and removal of the Stybarrow DTM buoy,” said Swaminathan. 

The DTM float will be lifted and taken out using McDermott’s DLV2000 vessel, guaranteeing protected and proficient tasks all through the decommissioning system. 

“It also highlights the critical importance of decommissioning in the offshore industry,” Swaminathan said. 

Woodside’s Stybarrow field, in the northwest cape of Western Australia, was recently worked by BHP. It created unrefined petroleum through a drifting creation stockpiling and offloading office until July 2015. 

All major contracts for the decommissioning of subsea infrastructure at the Enfield, Griffin, and Echo Yodel offshore oil and gas fields in Western Australia were awarded by Woodside in May 2023. 

“This award not only demonstrates McDermott’s proven track record in undertaking deep-water projects of diverse scopes, but it also highlights the critical importance of decommissioning in the offshore industry,” said Swaminathan 

The engineering and fabrication support will be provided by the teams in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Batam, Indonesia, while McDermott’s Perth-based team will be in charge of project management.
