DHL breaks ground on European Innovation Center in GER, prioritizing holistic sustainability

Four DHL Innovation Centres worldwide serve as the cornerstone of the company’s development program of the DHL Group. In Germany, decisively situated close to the company’s headquarters in Bonn, DHL will begin the development of a new, forefront, carbon-neutral European Innovation Centre in Troisdorf in half a month.  

This foundation addresses the organisation’s debut adventure into wood development, reaffirming its obligation to manageability. The new DHL Europe Advancement Centre will act as a hub for trend research and innovation development, giving innovative solutions to help clients and accomplices in exploring their strategies process. The expected completion date for the facility is set for April 2025. 

“It is important for us to provide our customers and partners with the best possible experience, offering insights into forward-looking logistics. After around 15 years, we have reached the capacity limits of our current Innovation Centre in Troisdorf,” Chief Commercial Officer and Head of Customer Solutions and Innovation at DHL, Katja Busch said. 

Sustainability has been a core value for DHL all through the acknowledgement of the new DHL Europe Innovation Centre. DHL focuses on utilising harmless ecosystem materials from regional production during construction. Constructed from locally obtained cross-laminated timber, the groundbreaking facility marks the first timber-built facility in the DHL Group’s portfolio, yielding different benefits. 

Only five kilometres from the current Europe Innovation Centre, DHL has selected to remain in Troisdorf to build the new facility, driven by strategic considerations. This decision mirrors the progress of the ongoing Innovation Centre’s location nearby and the strategic location of the company’s headquarters. It highlights DHL’s commitment to progressing interest in North Rhine-Westphalia. The nearby local area will profit from the recently arranged Innovation Centre, developed as a team with the city of Troisdorf and provincial suppliers. 

“The new DHL Europe Innovation Centre facility will provide more space for various new exhibits and content and represent a pioneering dedication to environmental responsibility, social benefits, and economic viability. This new facility will serve as a beacon of sustainability, setting new benchmarks for the industry and reinforcing DHL Group’s commitment to a greener future,” said Busch.
