DHL Supply Chain launches three new transport hubs in regional New Zealand

DHL Supply Chain New Zealand has launched three new transport hubs to bolster final-mile delivery in under-serviced areas outside of Auckland.

The third-party logistics company said that the new hubs in Whangarei, Tauranga, and Hastings will enhance the resilience of supply chains in regional areas of New Zealand’s North Island, while ensuring consignments are delivered reliably to end recipients.

This investment will see the new transport hubs, which will service customers across all sectors that require a high service standard in deliveries, including consumer goods, life sciences, healthcare, engineering, and IT sectors.

This includes systems which help monitor staff health & safety, as well as sign-on-glass technology to verify proof of final delivery.

“We’re excited to announce the launch of our new North Island transport hubs,” said Matt Casbolt, Managing Director at DHL Supply Chain New Zealand.

“These strategic locations will help us improve the service level to customers in and around Whangarei, Tauranga, and Hawke’s Bay,” Casbolt said.

The facilities will be run by DHL personnel, reducing the use of third-party contractors in the areas.

“Over the past 24 months we’ve seen an incredible amount of supply chain disruptions around the world, many of which have made front page news,” Casbolt said.

“By investing in regional areas with close proximity to ports and transport infrastructure, we will be enhancing the resilience of supply chains in New Zealand.”

As part of this investment DHL will commission 15 new vehicles, with a plan to replace existing vehicles with new DHL green vehicles as they reach end of life.

The new transport hubs follow DHL’s recent launch of two new start-of-the-art facilities in Auckland and Christchurch, totalling more than 12,000 sqm of warehouse space, serving the healthcare and consumer electronics sectors.

The company said it is on track to achieve zero logistics-related carbon emissions by 2050, as part of its commitment to sustainability.
