Freight workers become vaccination priority group in QLD

As cases of the COVID-19 Delta strain begin to increase, the Queensland Government has expanded its list of vaccination priority groups to include freight and distribution centre workers.

“The Chief Health Officer [Dr Jeannette Young] has also added FIFO, freight and distribution centre workers to the high-risk priority group,” said Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk.

“These changes, coupled with the remarkable work of Queenslanders during this lockdown will bolster our efforts to get on top of the latest outbreak,” she said.

The Queensland Trucking Association also applauded the decision to have answered industry’s call to have freight and logistics workers prioritised to receive the CVO-19 vaccine.

“This is excellent news, particularly for Queensland truck drivers who regularly travel into interstate hotspots,” said, Gary Mahon CEO of Queensland Trucking Association.

This inclusion of freight workers will provide them and their families the assurance of vaccine protection while performing their important role of keeping the supply chain moving around Australia.

“We appreciate the Queensland government acknowledgement that freight and logistics workers needed to be included in this latest list of priority workers to receive the vaccine,” Mahon said.
