The Australian Government is committing up to $70 million to lay out the Townsville Region Hydrogen Hub in North Queensland to move towards setting Australia’s situation as a renewable energy force.

This drive aligns with the public authority’s political race vow to fabricate a hydrogen hub point in the region, fostering job creation and sustainable energy development.

The project’s initial phase will produce 800 tons of green hydrogen each year to power over 40 heavy vehicles.

As the hub advances, production is set to increment to around 3,000 tons for domestic utilisation and surpass 150,000 tons for global products.

The venture will be led by Edify Energy, which will build a 17.6 MW local production facility with integrated renewable energy generation and battery storage and produce green hydrogen for local industries and emissions-free transportation.

During construction, at least 200 direct jobs in positions like electricians, plumbers, fitters, and concretes are anticipated to be created by the project for the local workforce.

Moreover, continuous positions in specialised and designing limits will be accessible once the hub is operational.

Teaming up with industry bodies, including Siemens Energy, Queensland TAFE, James Cook University, and Townsville Enterprise Limited, Energy aims to give education and training to guarantee that the local workforce is exceptional to add to and support the blossoming hydrogen industry.

“We are determined to grasp this opportunity and are investing half a billion dollars into regional hydrogen hubs all around Australia,” said Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese.

“With its port, expertise in exports and access to Queensland’s abundant solar resources, Townsville is ideally placed to help power the world with Australian renewable energy and create jobs in regional Australia,” said Minister for Climate Change and Energy, Chris Bowen.
