Plans for Haigh’s, a South Australian chocolate company run by a family, have been revealed for its upcoming $130 million Salisbury South manufacturing facility.

“It positions us to meet growing demand, explore interstate opportunities, and venture into new markets,” Chief Executive, Alister Haigh said.

The advanced facility is expected to be fully operational by the second half of 2025, with construction beginning later this month.

The facility will have up to 400 employees during the growth phase, which will result in the creation of approximately 150 new jobs.

“This project will not only create immediate opportunities but will also foster employment growth across our national retail business, generating up to 250 new jobs in the medium and long term,” Chief Operating Officer, Peter Millard said.

The acquisition of advanced European-made equipment, including specialised panning, enrobing, and moulding lines, as well as kitchen and packing equipment to complement the artisan chocolate-making capabilities, will receive a significant portion of the project’s $36 million investment.

“Today commemorates the start of construction on what will surely become one of Adelaide’s premium industrial facilities. Early works set to get underway include bulk earthworks and inground services before standing steel in early 2024,” CEO of CIP Constructions, Mark Hendry said.

Over 800 people are employed by Haigh’s, which has been around for over a century.

The existing manufacturing facilities in Mile End and Parkside will continue to serve as Haigh’s Head Office, the hub for artisan chocolate production, and the Visitor Centre, despite the new facility’s goal of doubling chocolate production.

With 21 stores across Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne, and Canberra and an online-based presence, Haigh’s is ready for progress and extension.
