The Australian Government has declared Adam Copp as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Infrastructure Australia (IA), the Commonwealth’s independent adviser on broadly significant infrastructure investment.

IA independent body that conducts research and advises the government and industry on issues connecting with the foundation. The Infrastructure Priority List details proposals for significant infrastructure projects that have not yet received funding from the federal government.

Copp has been acting in the job since 1 August 2022 and has now been selected as the substantive CEO for a three-year term.

He has worked for the Australian government for more than 15 years, holding a variety of policy, strategy, and engagement positions in the infrastructure, workplace relations, and Council of Australian Governments departments.

Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Catherine King said the arrangement of Copp would improve the critical job IA plays in conveying quality independence guidance to the Australian government on the foundation that upholds the economy, builds the country, and provides for what’s to come.

“The appointment of Copp will enhance the critical role IA plays in delivering quality independent advice to the Australian Government on infrastructure that supports the economy, builds the nation, and provides for the future. The appointment of the CEO complements broader work underway to restore IA to its rightful place as an expert advisory body following the independent review of IA commissioned by the Government last year,” said King.

The CEO was appointed by the IA board after it embraced a publicly advertised and merit-based selection process.

IA interim chair Gabrielle Trainor stated that the organisation was pleased that Copp would continue to serve as the agency’s CEO on a permanent basis.

“At a time when the infrastructure sector in Australia is facing significant and complex challenges, Adam’s leadership will ensure Infrastructure Australia is positioned to provide the trusted, rigorous and expert independent advice the Australian Government needs to address these challenges and, in turn, drive better outcomes,” Trainor said.
