A public-private decarbonisation initiative has sent off Infrastructure Net Zero with sector peak bodies and government organizations.

The Australian Constructors Association, Clean Energy Finance Enterprise, Consult Australia, Green Building Council Australia, Infrastructure Partnership Australia and Infrastructure Sustainability Council are additionally on the advisory group.

Jon Davies, CEO of the Australian Constructors Association, said the Infrastructure Net Zero drive highlights the nearby cooperation between government and industry in making a clear path for the sector to reach net zero outflows.

The founders together form the committee, which means giving direction on an arrangement resolving issues across infrastructure sub-areas with an emphasis on supply chain capacity.

“We are entering a time where we need everything all at once – net zero, decarbonisation, sustainability – and navigating the policy landscape is challenging. This initiative will help to join the dots,” said Davies.

Federal infrastructure and transport minister Catherine King said states’ work with industry would guarantee Australia’s transport foundation areas have their influence on the way to net zero.

“This builds on the recent decision by Infrastructure and Transport Ministers to establish the new Infrastructure Decarbonisation Working Group, which will explore ways to reduce embodied emissions in transport infrastructure while strengthening the global competitiveness of Australia’s infrastructure and transport sectors,” said King.

“This initiative will help to connect the dots. If we are to reach our goal, we need to start doing things differently now. The immediate priority areas will include defining net zero for infrastructure, reaching alignment between public and private sectors, uplifting capability in the supply chain and procuring for net zero. The path to net zero is a collaborative one and we are already on our way,” said Davies.

The work streams are characterizing net zero for infrastructure, public/private arrangement, elevating capacity in the supply chain and procurement for net zero.
