Queensland’s industry association for waste management and resource recovery, WRIQ, recently held a prestigious event to recognise those whose behind-the-scenes efforts are essential for achieving a sustainable future for the state.

The WRIQ Industry Awards Gala Dinner took place on Friday, 11 October, at the Star Brisbane, bringing together over 220 industry representatives to celebrate the remarkable contributions of their colleagues.

The gala dinner announced winners across ten award categories, highlighting the diverse talents and innovations within Queensland’s waste and resource recovery sector.

Among the attendees was the guest of honour, Sam O’Connor MP, Shadow Minister for Environment and the Great Barrier Reef, who addressed the industry’s importance in fostering sustainability and protecting Queensland’s natural resources.

WRIQ CEO Alison Price took the opportunity to express her immense pride in the finalists and winners. She highlighted their unwavering dedication to sustainability and excellence, which are vital to the ongoing development of the industry.

“The Industry Awards Gala Dinner was a truly inspiring celebration of the talent and hard work that drives our industry forward,” Ms Price remarked. “We congratulate all the finalists for their valuable contributions and extend our heartfelt congratulations to the deserving winners for their exceptional accomplishments.”

The evening celebrated individual achievements and fostered a sense of community among industry professionals. Attendees shared insights, networked, and discussed the future challenges and opportunities facing the waste and resource recovery sector in Queensland.

The awards program and event were made possible with the generous support of key industry partners, including Hastings Deering, Pure Environmental, Re. Group, and Kennedy’s Timber.

Their collaboration underscores the importance of unity within the industry as it continues to evolve and meet the sustainability challenges of the future. As Queensland moves forward, events like these play a crucial role in recognising and promoting the vital work being done to ensure a cleaner, more sustainable environment for all.
