Transport Women Australia Limited has announced that it has joined the National Rural Women’s Coalition.

The organisation said that it has become a new Member Organisation of National Rural Women’s Coalition and Network (NRWC).

“Transport is the lifeblood of rural regional and remote Australia, whether it be flights, rail or road transport, we need it, and it costs us the most,” said Leonie Noble, Chair at NRWC.

“The National Rural Women’s Coalition’s surveys consistently rate transport as one of the top five issues in regional, rural and remote Australia,” Noble said.

“We’re very excited to bring on Transport Women Australia Limited and utilise its high level of experience and expertise in transport to bring about change in this space,” she said.

Transport Women Australia revealed that it will be the first time in more than 10 years a new member organisation has joined the National Rural Women’s Coalition.

Transport Women Australia Limited was formed in 1999 to assist those working in all forms of transport. It provides scholarships, networking, leadership and mentoring to its members across the transport and logistics industry.

Transport Women Australia Limited Chair Jacquelene Brotherton said the new relationship would allow the organisations to learn from each other and to continue to grow.

“I’m looking forward to the opportunity to broaden our horizons and to do more for our rural communities,” Brotherton said.

She identified the huge cost of road freight in rural, regional and remote Australia as an issue to be addressed, saying those who live outside of metropolitan areas should not be penalised or disadvantaged.

Other National Rural Women’s Coalition Member Organisations include Australian Local Government Womens Association ALGWA, Women in Agriculture, National Rural Health Alliance, Women In Seafood Australasia – WISA.

The National Rural Women’s Coalition and Network Board also includes two Independent Directors.
