WA missions to advance trade and green energy

The WA head has left on an exchange mission to Indonesia, while the state’s preparation set gears up for an environmentally friendly power energy mission to the UK. 

The roundtable focused on creating basic minerals and battery industry supply chains in WA and Indonesia. It followed a basic mineral activity plan that was endorsed during Indonesian President Joko Widodo’s visit to Sydney in July. 

Premier Roger Cook ventured out to Jakarta to promote trade with WA and urge organisations to participate in investment. 

“This historic trade mission to Indonesia – my first overseas mission as premier – will play a central role in Western Australia’s future and specifically our plans to diversify our economy,” Cook said. 

Cook said Indonesia is one of WA’s closest and most respected neighbours. 

The trade mission started with the ASEAN Business and Investment Summit and an energy roundtable with the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. 

In Jakarta, more than 130 WA delegates gathered, including energy and hydrogen industry minister Bill Johnston, culture and the arts minister David Templeman, and agriculture minister Jackie Jarvis. 

“Indonesia is a recognised and trusted partner and that is why it is vital we explore new ways to deepen our relationship – one that delivers investment opportunities and local jobs for Western Australians,” Cook said. 

In 2022, WA shipped goods to Indonesia worth $3.8 billion. The state represented a fourth of Australia’s complete exchange of merchandise with Indonesia that year. 

WA training minister Simone McGurk is to lead a designation to the UK to advance environmentally friendly power energy drives and tasks. 

“This mission is a fantastic opportunity to showcase WA as a premier destination when it comes to the renewable energy sector and all it has to offer,” McGurk said.

The 2023 display will focus in on driving the oil and gas area forward into an efficient power energy powerhouse.
