AU Hydrogen Council applauds $140M hydrogen hub deal in Pilbara

The Australian Government declared a $140 million concurrence with the Western Australian Government to propel a hydrogen hub in the Pilbara district.

This move denotes the seventh hydrogen hub project supported by the Australian Government, with an investment surpassing $500 million devoted to cultivating the advancement of the hydrogen business in regional Australia.

The unveiled regional hydrogen hubs encompass Pilbara, Kwinana, Gladstone, Townsville, Ringer Sound, Port Bonython, and the Tracker, each decisively situated to assume a vital part in pushing Australia’s hydrogen economy forward.

As per the council, the Pilbara Hydrogen Hub is scheduled to arise as an unmistakable core for hydrogen creation and product, holding the possibility to lay down a good foundation for itself as a worldwide entryway for Australia-made green steel and iron.

A Clean Energy Training and Research Institute will be established with significant funding to provide Pilbara residents, including First Nations, with practical, job-oriented training in hydrogen and renewable energy.

“We would like to congratulate the Australian Government, State Governments, and industry for investing in the Australian hydrogen industry through seven regional hydrogen hubs strategically positioned across Australia.

These hub projects are being led by world-leading developers and partners, and will need continued support from all levels of government to address common user infrastructure, social license, and regulatory requirements,” said the CEO of the Australian Hydrogen Council, Dr Fiona Simon.

Dr. Simon emphasised the importance of hydrogen in achieving Australia’s net-zero goals and the importance of continuing to share and learn from large-scale projects to speed up the transition and reduce the cost of hydrogen. Dr Simon further praised the Western Australian Government for arriving at this achievement and bracing the Pilbara locale’s possibilities of developing into a hydrogen-rich economy that uses its current mining and export partnership.

Edify Energy, Siemens Energy, TAFE Queensland, James Cook University, and Townsville Enterprise are working together to develop the Townsville Regional Hydrogen Hub in Queensland.
