National $12.6 billion agreement to boost Victoria’s workforce skills

A national understanding between the Australian and Victorian Governments is preparing for a huge interest in the state’s vocational education and training (VET) sector. The Commonwealth has vowed a $12.6 billion investment, remembering an extra $2.4 billion for flexible financing for state and regional abilities areas. 

This landmark five-year National Skills Agreement (NSA) is set to happen in January next year, uniting a complete way to deal with enable Victoria’s labour force and construct fundamental abilities for the future. 

This speculation won’t just help quality training but also address basic skills needs, reinforcing the state’s current venture of more than $4 billion in the sector beginning around 2014. 

Brendan O’Connor, Minister for Skills and Training, expressed his excitement about this memorable understanding, featuring the opportunities it makes for Victorians to equip themselves with abilities for excellent work.   

“By working in partnership with states and territories through a new National Stewardship approach, we are building a system that is greater than the sum of its parts,” said O’Connor. 

Victoria will get an extension of $105 million for the Free TAFE financing plans, giving 62,800 extra Free TAFE places for Victorian students throughout the following three years.

This expands on the Allan Labour Government’s current TAFE responsibility, which as of now empowers all Victorians to get to education cost-free training across over 80 courses in need regions, regardless of earlier qualifications. 

Victoria’s Minister for Skills and TAFE, Gayle Tierney, accentuated the meaning of the arrangement, which lines up with the common public vision for TAFE and abilities.

“The Agreement includes crucial measures for Victoria, including additional funding for TAFE Centres of Excellence and working together to tackle the skills needs of our fastest growing industries,” Tierney said.
