UNIDO and DHL Group join forces to tackle food waste and climate impact 

During the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference, the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation and the DHL Group entered into a Memorandum of Understanding. 

The occasion highlighted the organisation’s marking service and the send-off of the “Innovation for Food Systems Transformation” global innovation challenge by UNIDO and DHL Group. Fueled by the aggregate mastery of the two entities, this coordinated effort endeavours to change agribusiness and environment-related initiatives. At the centre of this partnership is the drive to upgrade food conservation, decrease food waste in African business sectors, and further develop worldwide market availability for producers. 

“This partnership with DHL Group holds immense potential in addressing food security and establishing sustainable food supply chains. Uniting industry expertise and innovative solutions is paramount in tackling global challenges and nurturing a more sustainable future,” Managing Director of UNIDO’s Directorate for SDG Innovation and Economic Transformation, Gunther Beger said. 

The goal of the Innovation Challenge is to find innovative technology providers who have created long-term solutions for agribusiness supply chains and logistics. These solutions ought to promote the adoption of a sustainable food system that eliminates all forms of waste, improves farmers’ livelihoods, and addresses obstacles in the “first-mile” supply chain.  

The collaboration focuses on clean technology, perishable logistics, new sustainable business models, smart solutions, and sustainable packaging and containers. It also emphasises a keen interest in multiple sectors that foster innovative solutions at the intersection of logistics and sustainability.
