Grant Thornton Australia has announced the appointment of industry expert Matt Darby as the latest Partner to bolster its growing Retail Management Consulting team.

Before joining Grant Thornton, Darby was the National Lead for the retail sector at KMPG.

“I’m extremely excited to become a part of Grant Thornton and link up with such a talented group of retail experts,” Darby said.

“The retail sector has faced significant challenges throughout the pandemic, and this has brought forward major change within the industry,” he said.

“The retailers who rebound best will be those who can harness new technologies and the data at their fingertips – that’s where Grant Thornton’s retail consulting offering fits.”

Before KMPG, Darby had also served as the Retail & Products Industry Lead at Publicis Sapient, following more than 20 years at Accenture where he was their Retail Industry Lead for Australia & New Zealand.

He brings over 25 years of experience in consulting to Grant Thornton.

Commenting on Darby’s appointment, Jamie Downs, Partner & National Head of Management Consulting at Grant Thornton, said Darby “epitomises” the Grant Thornton philosophy of “retailers first and consultants second”.

“Throughout his career he has worked within every segment of the retail sector and the supply chain,” Downs said.

“During this time, Matt has worked with Consumer & Retail industry clients across the UK, Europe, North America and the APAC region,” he said.

He continued that Darby is renowned for his expertise in improving capabilities for retailers across the complete value chain.

“He delivers tech enabled transformation programs working alongside his clients to enable the new digital and data capabilities their customers require,” he said.

“We know these skills are fundamental for the future of retail, which is why we are so excited by Matt’s addition to our retail business,” continued Jamie Downs,” he concluded.
