Metso, a provider of sustainable solutions for the mining and aggregates industries, has introduced its largest service centre worldwide in Karratha, Western Australia.

Strategically situated in the heart of the Pilbara, a key hub for iron ore production, this advanced facility is poised to cater to the burgeoning demands of mining and aggregates customers with cutting-edge maintenance and repair services.

Sami Takaluoma, president of Metso’s Services business area, underscored the importance of this initiative in enhancing customer experience and accelerating strategic investments.

“The opening of the new centre is an important milestone and further proof of our commitment to accelerate strategic investments in serving customers from pit to port,” said Takaluoma.

“Strengthening our presence to offer increased productivity, shorter lead times, and environmental advantages, will allow us to take service capabilities and customer experience to the next level.”

Spanning 35,000 square metres, with a workshop covering 5,000 square metres, the Karratha Service Center represents a substantial investment totalling approximately EUR 32 million.

Equipped with cutting-edge amenities including high-capacity cranes, CNC machines, and advanced welding facilities, the centre aims to service a wide array of heavy mining equipment, from crushers and screens to mills and car dumpers.

The centre aligns with Metso’s commitment to sustainability, contributing to customers’ environmental and safety objectives by extending the lifespan of assets, enhancing energy and water efficiency, and minimising plant downtime.

By reducing the need for long-haul freight between Perth and the Pilbara region, the centre significantly reduces carbon emissions while ensuring faster access to critical spare parts, thereby enhancing operational efficiency.

Stuart Sneyd, president of Metso Asia Pacific, underscored the long-term commitment to the Pilbara region and the communities therein.

“We are extremely pleased that our local customers are already expressing considerable interest and confidence in our services,” said Sneyd.

“By utilising Metso’s service know-how and expertise, customers will achieve significant business and sustainability benefits.”

In addition to providing advanced maintenance and repair solutions, the Karratha Service Center features a dedicated training facility aimed at enhancing the technical expertise of mining professionals.
