eBay has extended its partnership with global logistics provider Orange Connex to launch a local fulfilment service for over 40,000 vendors across Australia.

As part of the launch, eBay is opening two Australian fulfilment centres in Sydney, with plans to roll out more locations across major capital cities.

The program is set to offer eBay sellers with faster delivery options, competitive shipping rates, enhanced seller protection and full eBay integration.

“At eBay we understand that housing, managing stock and delivery in tight timeframes can be challenging for growing a business – especially as e-commerce continues to accelerate and consumers expect faster and more seamless experiences,” said Hayat Horma, director of shipping at eBay Australia.

“Our research reveals three quarters (73%) of Australian businesses believe it’s important marketplaces offer fulfilment services,” Horma said.

“eBay’s priority is to provide the tools that enable our 40,000 Australian retailers to compete and grow; eBay Fulfilment by Orange Connex will provide that – from streamlining the delivery experience to eBay Plus integration that gives sellers more opportunity to showcase their products to eBay’s nearly 12-million unique monthly visitors,” she said.

eBay said that the program will benefit local shoppers with faster delivery and more eBay Plus items to shop from.

For sellers within the program, benefits include protection against delivery-related defects, including late shipment and item not received claims.

Retailers will also benefit from competitive shipping rates as postage rates start at $4.80 for pick, pack and delivery and a flat rate based on product weight and size.

In addition, eBay’s Australian fulfilment centres will also offer end-to-end management of inventory, both on eBay and across other selling platforms

“eBay Fulfilment by Orange Connex has been a game changer for our business,” said Matthew Ling, AZAU managing director and eBay seller.

“We do most of our sales through eBay, so seller protection and competitive shipping rates are two of the most important benefits for us,” Ling said.

He continued that despite working with other logistics companies, this is the first time they have been able to significantly improve their operations and efficiency.

The launch in Australia follows a rollout in Germany and most recently the UK. Both programs reported seeing significant delivery experience improvements.
